Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, attending the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Atlanta, stated to the AA and TRT Haber that the Russia-Ukraine war has become untenable.

Fidan said, "Russia and Ukraine must reach an agreement by making great sacrifices." Referencing statements that the war has been ongoing for approximately 3 years and that energy costs to Europe alone are at roughly 100 billion euros, he noted that the total bill could be even larger.

Stating that this impact has been pushed to much greater lengths through a multiplier effect due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Fidan conveyed that all countries around the table agreed that there should be no renewed conflict between the US and Iran and that diplomacy should be given a chance.

Within the scope of the meeting, Fidan held bilateral talks with his US counterpart Marco Rubio as well as foreign ministers from Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Germany, and Japan. He also noted that Turkey is making intensive efforts for grain transit in the Black Sea.

Fidan also assessed the candidacy of OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu, whom Turkey nominated for UN Secretary-General, noting that Turkey took this step due to a deadlock on the Latin American axis. Emphasizing that the meeting, which serves as preparation for the G20 Leaders Summit to be held in Miami on December 14-15, was a timely and appropriate gathering, Fidan described his participation in sessions on "global crises," "energy crisis," and "global supply chains."
