Three tankers carrying Russian diesel are en route to the eastern coast of the Atlantic Ocean, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Friday, in the first shipments under a deal announced by US President Donald Trump to supply American and global markets.

Novak said the cargoes were being dispatched with significant support from the Russian Direct Investment Fund. He said Russian companies could supply up to 500,000 metric tons in October.

The deal as announced by Trump provided for 300,000 metric tons in October, with more to follow. Ship-tracking data cited by Reuters placed the first cargo aboard a tanker bound for New York.

The Trump administration temporarily lifted US sanctions on Russian fuel that had been designed to deprive Moscow of revenues for its war on Ukraine to facilitate the arrangement.
