European health authorities are responding to an emerging cluster of hantavirus cases, a serious disease with a fatality rate of approximately one in three, according to France 24.

Unlike COVID-19, hantavirus is considerably less infectious. However, its significantly higher mortality rate has prompted urgent containment efforts across affected regions.

Matt McKee, a professor of European public health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, is advising on the response. The exact number of confirmed cases and affected countries remains unclear from initial reports, but authorities are treating the situation as a priority public health concern.
