Interior Minister Çiftçi: 30,000 School Groundskeepers to Be Hired Through ISKUR
Following attacks in Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi announced new employment of 30,000 people to strengthen school security.

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi announced in a live broadcast that 30,000 'school groundskeepers' will be hired for schools across Turkey. Applications will be submitted through ISKUR.
The decision came directly following school attacks in Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa. Çiftçi stated that police forces will continue to remain deployed at schools identified as carrying security risks, while the groundskeepers will form an additional layer to the existing 7-Tiered School Security Model. The new staff will be stationed particularly at school entrances and around the grounds.
School security debate in Turkey is not new: a security officer program launched in 2012 was gradually scaled back due to budget constraints, leaving many schools without security. This new cadre of 30,000 people effectively reverses that decision.
