Mehmet Pehlivan, a Gaziosmanpaşa shopkeeper who tried to break up the fight, died at Gaziosmanpaşa Education and Research Hospital after being shot in the abdomen during an armed clash that broke out on Thursday, July 30 at 4:40 p.m. on Tuna Street in the İsmetpaşa neighborhood.
The incident began with an argument over insults between Raşit Ö., who was sitting outside a bakery, and Çiğdem C. (37) and her 13-year-old daughter G.C., who were passing by. About 25 minutes later, Çiğdem C. returned to the scene with her husband Enis Emre C. (38). While Enis Emre C. attempted to beat Raşit Ö., Raşit Ö.'s father Cemil Ö. (70) also became involved in the fight. During the scuffle, Enis Emre C. fired randomly into the air with a pistol he was carrying.
Besides Pehlivan, Raşit Ö. was also injured due to assault and was taken to hospital. Enis Emre C. was detained in connection with the incident; the prosecutor's investigation is ongoing.
