74 irregular migrants apprehended in Izmir
A total of 74 irregular migrants were rescued and taken into custody in operations conducted across two separate districts of Izmir.
Security forces apprehended a total of 74 people in operations targeting irregular migration in Izmir. According to TRT Haber's report, the incidents occurred simultaneously across two different districts in the province.
Off the coast of Karaburun district, Turkish Coast Guard teams rescued 34 irregular migrants stranded in the Aegean Sea and brought them ashore. The migrants, who had attempted illegal passage by sea, were handed over to relevant units for health screening.
During the same period, gendarme and security forces in Dikili district identified and took into custody 40 irregular migrants moving overland. Due to its location on the Aegean coast, Dikili has been frequently mentioned over the years among districts along irregular migration routes.
The operations conducted form part of routine inspection activities undertaken in the Aegean Region to prevent smuggling and irregular migration. Proceedings for the detained migrants are being handled by the relevant authorities.
