20-year missing person case in Kırşehir solved: Rıza Güzel was killed by his sons

The Kırşehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has solved the death of Rıza Güzel, who was reported missing by his family in 2006 in Köşker village, Akpınar district, twenty years later. The investigation was resolved by bringing together witness statements from 4 different provinces; Güzel's remains were found on vacant land near the village, and his 2 sons were arrested on charges of intentional homicide.

The investigation, conducted under the coordination of the Justice Ministry's Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department, was carried out by the Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Team (JASAT) within the Provincial Gendarmerie Command for approximately 4 months. During this period, a 3-month wiretapping order was issued regarding family members and other suspects; witness statements from 11 people were taken in nearby districts and villages, and hospital records from different provinces as well as satellite and aerial photographs were examined.

Investigators established that Güzel never left the village after 2006; his name was not found in intercity transportation and accommodation records. The case has once again brought to the agenda how cases of domestic violence that have remained unsolved in Turkey can be resolved decades later.
