M-7 Mecidiyeköy metro station may open as early as end of 2026

The section of the Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey (M-7 line) between Mecidiyeköy and Çağlayan has been closed since April 27 due to ground deformation triggered by groundwater. In Şişli, hundreds of passengers are forced to seek alternative routes at the Mecidiyeköy intersection every morning; metrobus transfers add an average of 20 minutes.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pelin Alpkökin, Deputy Secretary General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the engineering design has been completed, the construction phase has begun, and the line is targeted to be delivered "toward the end of this year, without waiting until the very end." Alpkökin emphasized that similar ground movement has occurred at the site before, and that operators' careful monitoring enabled services to be stopped in a timely manner.

When M-7 opened in Mecidiyeköy in 2014, it carried more than 300,000 passengers daily. In the third month of the closure, the estimated daily loss remains at around 180,000 trips.
