Tuğçe Pekcan stabbed at her father's house in Malatya; suspect Furkan D. arrested

In the Fatih District of Malatya, Tuğçe Pekcan, a mother of three who had separated from Furkan D., with whom she had been living in a religious marriage, and taken refuge at her father's house, was stabbed by Furkan D. when he secretly entered the home in the early morning hours. Her mother Gülşen Pekcan, who was trying to protect her daughter, was also wounded in the attack. Security camera footage from the house revealed that Furkan D. had entered with a knife at his waist. During the assault, the children in the house were seen fleeing and hiding in fear.

Following intervention by health teams, the mother and daughter were taken to Malatya Education and Research Hospital. Furkan D., beaten by neighbors, was detained after receiving treatment at Battalgazi State Hospital; the court to which he was referred ordered him held in custody.

Tuğçe Pekcan stated that she had filed multiple complaints against the suspect previously and asked for help. Her sister Nihal Pekcan recounted that three to four days before the incident, Furkan D. had attempted to attack her sister with a knife, the assault was prevented by those who intervened, and Tuğçe Pekcan was forced to flee the house.

Nihal Pekcan, asking "Why were necessary precautions not taken despite multiple complaints filed," demanded an investigation into what happened and that any negligence be exposed. Gülşen Pekcan was discharged while Tuğçe Pekcan continues receiving treatment.
