No lessons learned from Manisa disaster: Reversing on highway and driver changes while moving caught on camera
Following the Akhisar crash in which 11 people died when a tour bus made a reverse maneuver, similar dangerous maneuvers were recorded on the Yalova-Bursa highway; an investigation was launched against one driver.
Following the crash in Akhisar district of Manisa, where 11 people lost their lives after a tour bus that missed its exit collided with a tractor during a reverse maneuver, footage showing similar hazards on highways has reached the public.
In footage dated September 12, a passenger bus on the Yalova-Bursa highway reversed in order to enter an exit ramp. The truck driver behind it noticed the situation and slowed down; a collision was avoided by chance. Following these images captured by the truck's dash camera, an investigation was launched against the bus driver in question.
A second set of footage revealed a driver change that took place while a passenger bus traveling from Van to Bursa was in motion. While it is known that the reverse maneuver was a determining factor in the Akhisar crash, the documentation of similar behaviors still occurring has brought safety concerns back into focus.
