The Ministry of National Defense (MND) formally announced that the 'Blue Homeland' law is being prepared to strengthen the legal framework of Turkey's maritime jurisdiction areas. In the announcement, it was emphasized that the draft law was prepared with the aim of protecting Turkey's maritime areas, managing them, and exercising sovereignty rights over these areas more effectively.
The Blue Homeland doctrine is defined as a comprehensive strategic vision encompassing Turkey's sovereignty claims over maritime jurisdiction areas in the Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean, and Black Sea, as well as the defense policies pursued in these areas. The Ministry's step coincides with a period when international disputes over energy resources and continental shelf rights in the Eastern Mediterranean have intensified.
It is assessed that the draft law will regulate the operational authorities of naval forces, the monitoring of maritime boundaries, and coordination among relevant institutions. Following the completion of the preparation process, the draft is expected to be placed on the legislative agenda.
