Russia strikes Kyiv with 21 missiles and 210 drones hours after Putin signals peace talks
Two people killed and 34 injured in Kyiv; a separate strike on Lozova's central market killed at least two more.
Russia struck Kyiv overnight with 21 missiles and 210 drones, killing two people and injuring 34 others, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday — hours after President Vladimir Putin told US envoy Steve Witkoff he was willing to resume trilateral talks with Ukraine and the United States after November 10.
None of the ballistic missiles that hit Kyiv were intercepted, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, which cited a critical shortage of US-made Patriot defence missiles. Ukrainian officials said central Kyiv was struck with a cluster warhead. Three waves of ballistic strikes hit the capital, Zelensky said.
Zelensky said "real pressure must be applied on Russia" when Russian ballistic missiles are used as a response to negotiations, calling for rapid delivery of air defence missiles.
A separate Russian strike hit the central market in Lozova, in the Kharkiv region, killing at least two people and injuring dozens more as shoppers were present, according to the city's mayor.
In Moscow, the city's mayor reported 630 drones flew toward the region overnight, injuring two people in the Voronovo area; most were intercepted.
Putin's aide Yury Ushakov said the Kremlin wants to discuss a post-conflict "security framework" for both countries. Russia's stated demands include Ukraine ceding the entire Donbas region, sharply reducing its military, and pledging never to join NATO. US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday his administration is "the closest we've been" to settling the war; the first explosions hit Kyiv three minutes before he made those remarks.
