Ukrainian air defences shot down or neutralised two ballistic missiles and 255 drones during an overnight Russian attack that primarily targeted Kyiv, the Air Force reported on Tuesday, 27 October.

Russia launched the assault from 6 p.m. on Monday, 26 October, firing Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles from the Bryansk region and 280 strike drones, among them Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles, Gerbera drones and Parodiya decoys. Of the Shahed-type drones, 69 were jet-powered. Ukrainian forces intercepted or suppressed 257 aerial targets in total; several strike drones remained airborne and combat operations were still under way at the time of the Air Force report.

Impacts were recorded at 25 locations; debris from intercepted targets fell at 16 locations.

Russian strikes on Kyiv prompted the closure of the South (Pivdennyi) Bridge, a major Dnipro River crossing linking the capital's eastern and western banks. The bridge was closed to traffic. The closure also disrupted the Green (Syretsko-Pecherska) metro line, splitting it into two separate segments. Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko released photographs of the damage; no reopening date has been announced.

A separate ballistic missile strike damaged an administrative building in Kyiv's Podilskyi district and non-residential buildings at two other locations.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces carried out more than 40 attacks across five districts overnight, injuring three people in the Synelnykove district. Fires broke out in a multi-storey residential building, vehicles, private homes and outbuildings in Nikopol and Pavlohrad districts. Infrastructure was also damaged in the city of Dnipro and the Kamianske district; rescuers extinguished all fires, the State Emergency Service reported.

The overnight attack followed Monday evening strikes on a university campus and nearby residential areas that killed one person and injured more than ten others, most of them students.
