Suspect accused of killing 14-year-old Murat in Sakarya asked AI 13 days earlier: 'Can a Glock kill?'
A digital forensics examination revealed that Y.D.S. (15) researched firearm lethality and self-defense two weeks before the incident.
In the fatal shooting that occurred on July 24 in Ahmediye Neighborhood, Arifiye District of Sakarya, the 15-year-old suspect Y.D.S., who was arrested, had systematically posed questions about weapons and criminal law to an artificial intelligence application before the incident; investigation details were reported by Sözcü Newspaper.
In a phone examination conducted after the Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Cyber Crime Combat Branch directed the file to the Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Team (JASAT), it was determined that Y.D.S. had posed the questions 'Does a blank-firing gun kill', 'Can a Glock kill', 'Does a shotgun cause pain', and 'What is self-defense' to the AI application on July 11 — 13 days before the incident.
According to photographic evidence attached to the file, in an image taken on March 20, two pistols and a magazine are visible on a table inside a room; a child of approximately the same age as Y.D.S. with unknown identity is sitting beside the table. In a second photograph assessed to have been taken in the same house on April 9, the person believed to be Y.D.S. is seen holding the grip of the pistol with his right hand and pulling the slide with his left hand.
Murat İmrağ died on July 24 as a result of a licensed pistol belonging to 70-year-old F.K. being discharged. This situation raises a question rarely seen in Turkish jurisprudence before: Can research queries posed to artificial intelligence applications be used in court as evidence supporting the element of intent?
