Within the scope of a reopened investigation into the 2011 prison death of former MIT officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu, the Silivri Prosecutor's Office has summoned three screenwriters of the Kurtlar Vadisi television series for questioning.
The Silivri Prosecutor's Office has invited Raci Şaşmaz, Bahadır Özdener, and Cüneyt Aysan to give statements as 'witnesses with knowledge' on September 14. The focus of the investigation centers on the allegation that the character named 'Kazım Kaşifoğlu,' a MIT officer in the series' 123rd episode, was based on Kozinoğlu in real life.
Kozinoğlu, who was imprisoned pending trial in the Ergenekon case, fell ill on November 12, 2011, at Silivri Type L High-Security Prison and died at Silivri State Hospital, where he was taken. The cause of death was declared to be a heart attack; however, questions remained about whether timely medical intervention was provided and allegations of poisoning remained disputed. The initial investigation conducted in 2012 concluded with a decision not to prosecute after camera footage and medical records were examined.
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced on September 7 that the file had been reopened; as of now, three suspects have been arrested in the scope of the investigation.
Investigation into the death of Kaşif Kozinoğlu in 2011 has been reopened; three screenwriters of Kurtlar Vadisi will give statements on 14 September. The allegation that a character in the series' 123rd episode reflected a deceased MIT officer is at the center of the investigation.
This investigation, reopened 11 years after Kozinoğlu's death, could bring to light new information regarding the controversial period of the Ergenekon case. The fact that screenwriters of a popular series like Kurtlar Vadisi are testifying in a state investigation represents a significant development at the intersection of media and legal proceedings.
