Deaths of Ethiopian migrants in Saudi Arabia have sparked deep concern in international public opinion. Human rights organizations are drawing attention to the possibility that these deaths may be directly linked to religious discrimination and persecution.

Ethiopia, with a population that is predominantly Christian, sends thousands of migrant workers to Muslim-majority Saudi Arabia each year. The migrants in question occupy an extremely vulnerable position in terms of working conditions and legal status. It has been previously documented in various international reports that migrant workers in the region are subjected to systematic discrimination, mistreatment, and unsafe working environments.

International human rights organizations are calling on Saudi authorities to provide a transparent and comprehensive statement on the matter. No official statement has yet been issued by Riyadh, and the investigation into all aspects of the case continues. Groups advocating for migrant rights have reiterated their calls for structural reforms to be implemented to prevent similar cases.
