Midnight amendment in parliament: 200,000 investors included in liquidation, AKP gave no explanation
CHP's Türeli warned of 200,000 lawsuits while AKP Group Deputy Chair Gül cut off speeches; the amendment went directly to the general assembly without committee review.

While discussing Article 3 of the fund liquidation bill, the AKP submitted an amendment at midnight that subjected unit holders under instructions transmitted to TEFAS but not executed due to the fund's default or failure to announce prices to liquidation provisions; the amendment set a cut-off date of September 17, 2026. No AKP deputy requested to speak in order to explain the amendment.
Parliament Deputy Speaker and YENİ Party Ankara Deputy Tekin Bingöl, saying "Since no request came, I am obliged to read the justification," had the amendment rationale read aloud. Yeni Yol Party Mersin Deputy Mehmet Emin Ekmen characterized the failure to provide basic information about how many people and how many billion lira would be affected as "disrespect"; he argued that officials who violated the Capital Markets Law were being protected by this regulation.
CHP Group Deputy Chair Rahmi Aşkın Türeli, pointing out that the amendment concerned 200,000 of 455,000 people, said "We don't know whether these are small or large investors; this should not happen at the general assembly stage." Noting that the regulation violated Article 79 of the Capital Markets Law, Türeli warned, "Tomorrow there could be perhaps 200,000 lawsuits."
YENİ Party Group Deputy Chair Gökhan Günaydın reacted by saying "You are crushing the receivables of 250,000 citizens." AKP Group Deputy Chair Abdulhamit Gül closed the discussion by saying "Enough has been said" and requesting the application of parliamentary procedure.
