TOKİ rental social housing applications launched today: 1,071 units available in September 14–25 window

Applications for TOKİ's rental social housing, launched today via the e-Government portal, will run until September 25. Under the Century Housing Project overseen by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, 15,000 social housing units will be rented out in Istanbul — the first time such a scheme has been implemented in Turkey. In the first phase, 1,071 units will be allocated for three years to eligible citizens.

Monthly rental fees start at 10,000 lira — well below market rates in districts such as Maltepe, Kartal, and Tuzla, where rents for a typical 2-bedroom apartment currently range between 25,000 and 35,000 lira. No application fee will be charged.

By geographic distribution, 360 units are available in Başakşehir, Gaziosmanpaşa, Beyoğlu, and Güngören; 330 in Maltepe, Tuzla, and Kartal; 291 in Ataşehir, Sancaktepe, Ümraniye, and Üsküdar; and 90 in Arnavutköy. Istanbul residents may apply to any area they choose, regardless of their own district of residence.

TOKİ has previously carried out similar social housing projects, but a rental — rather than sales — model is a first for the scheme. NTV and Ekonomim (Dünya) reported the story.
