According to data obtained from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Tax Audit Board (VDK) has subjected 31.3% of large-scale taxpayers to tax examination this year. The rate had previously hovered around 11%, meaning nearly one in three large taxpayers is currently on VDK's desk.

By comparison, the audit rate for medium-scale taxpayers stood at 7.3%, while for small-scale taxpayers it remained at 1.1%. Large taxpayers are subject to direct tax examination, whereas medium-scale businesses are invited to provide explanations and small businesses are subject to cautionary monitoring.

VDK has also launched the 2nd High-Income Groups Monitoring and Compliance Programme, targeting declarations related to 2025 earnings. Under this programme, the taxable base declared by taxpayers reached 48.7 billion lira.

The trend of focusing tax audits on large taxpayers is not new; a similar concentration was seen in the 2022–23 period, but the audit rate had never exceeded 15% in any single year. This year's figure of 31.3% represents more than double that threshold.
