Uch-Kurgan Hydropower Station Capacity to Rise from 198 to 216 MW After Modernization Completion

The modernization of Uch-Kurgan Hydropower Station is in its final phase: once all work is completed, the station's installed capacity will increase from 198 to 216 MW, according to Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Energy.

Specialists are currently upgrading hydrogenerators No. 1 and No. 2. This work is scheduled for completion by end of 2026, after which all four hydrogenerators at the station will be fully modernized.

The modernization program launched in 2024. During the first phase, hydrogenerators No. 3 and No. 4 were upgraded, raising the station's capacity from 180 to 198 MW. Completion of the second phase — replacing the remaining two generators — will add another 18 MW to the total installed capacity.

Uch-Kurgan Hydropower Station is located on the Naryn River in Jalal-Abad Region and is one of the stages in the Naryn cascade of hydroelectric stations. The capacity increase is intended to strengthen the country's energy security and boost electricity generation in the republic's southern regions.
