Rybakina Wins US Open to Top WTA Rankings

Elena Rybakina won the US Open title, defeating Arina Sabalenka 6–4, 5–7, 6–2 in New York to claim her third Grand Slam title.

On Monday, following the release of the new WTA rankings, Rybakina will officially take the top spot — for the first time in the history of Kazakhstani tennis. She secured her place at the summit as early as the quarterfinals, when she defeated Zheng Qinwen.

Sabalenka entered the final as the reigning world No. 1 and two-time defending US Open champion. The match was a rematch of this year's Australian Open final — and once again ended in victory for Rybakina.

On her run to the final, the Kazakhstani defeated Naomi Osaka, Zheng Qinwen, and Coco Gauff. The New York title follows her victories at Wimbledon 2022 and the Australian Open 2023, giving Rybakina three Grand Slam titles in all.

"I am very proud to represent Kazakhstan," Rybakina said during the tournament, adding that her success is generating growing interest in tennis among children in the country.
