The Iranian Revolutionary Guards — the ideological military arm of the Islamic Republic — announced that a giant oil tanker with a capacity of approximately two million barrels was struck by a sea mine in the Strait of Hormuz while attempting passage through an alternative southern route, resulting in an explosion onboard.

The announcement came in an official statement issued by the naval wing of the Revolutionary Guards, released alongside images of the damaged tanker showing blast damage. The statement indicated that this incident represents the fourth of its kind to strike an oil tanker on the same day, signaling an escalation in tensions in one of the world's most vital shipping corridors, through which between one-fifth and one-quarter of global oil supplies pass.

The statement contained no information regarding the vessel's nationality, commercial name, or details about crew members and their condition, while no comment has yet been issued by other nations or international shipping companies.
