The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds, has signed a formal agreement with FIFA to become an official sponsor of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The agreement covers the expanded edition of the tournament to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will see 48 national teams participate for the first time in the tournament's history, a significant leap from previous editions that were limited to 32 teams.

This agreement represents a natural extension of Saudi Arabia's rising presence in international football, as the Kingdom prepares to host the 2034 edition of the World Cup, a clear indicator of the nation's push to strengthen its standing in global sports.

The Public Investment Fund serves as the Kingdom's primary investment arm and has expanded its portfolio in the sports sector at both domestic and international levels in recent years.
