Kenya's Health Ministry announced a new Ebola case, bringing the country's total confirmed cases to nine, all belonging to a single family cluster with no evidence of transmission beyond the group.

The latest patient is a 24-year-old man who was already in quarantine when symptoms appeared. He was diagnosed and immediately began treatment, according to a ministry statement issued Tuesday.

Director-General of Health Patrick Amoth said eight patients are in stable condition and responding to treatment, with 134 of 135 traced contacts isolated. He added that most of the quarantined contacts completed the 21-day monitoring period without showing symptoms and will be able to return home starting October 25. Amoth emphasized that these contacts "pose no transmission risk," urging communities to welcome them back.

The ministry confirmed that no cases have been recorded within quarantine facilities and that it continues to monitor infection prevention measures to protect healthcare workers.

The outbreak chain is linked to a traveler from the Democratic Republic of Congo who arrived in Kenya via Uganda. This traveler was the first Ebola patient in the country and died in a Nairobi hospital on October 5. The Democratic Republic of Congo has experienced a severe Ebola outbreak since May, with more than 9,000 cases and 4,000 deaths, making it the second-largest recorded epidemic according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. The absence of a licensed vaccine or specific treatment for the Bundibugyo strain of the virus contained in this outbreak has hampered control efforts.

Kenyan authorities have not imposed any restrictions on travel, trade, or public gatherings, affirming that the country continues its normal activities.
