The conditions imposed by the Competition Authority on the A101 and Carrefoursa merger have been clarified: a total of 48 stores will be divested from regions identified as having competition concerns; 10 will belong to A101 and 38 to Carrefoursa. The combined workforce of both chains will be maintained at current levels for three years.
Following the merger, the two chains will continue operating with separate organizational structures. Carrefoursa's commitment to completely end alcohol sales by year-end is also among the conditions, affecting the company's 1,237 stores across 77 provinces. This reverses the alcohol section expansion initiative that Carrefoursa launched in 2022. Once the merger is completed, the resulting chain will rise to the position of a decisive third force in Turkey's discount and supermarket market, behind BİM and Migros.
