The Trabzon Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched a new operation regarding an armed attack on the Fenerbahçe football team's bus on April 4, 2015, in Trabzon, detaining 4 of 5 suspects; 1 suspect remains at large.
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek confirmed the development while answering journalists' questions during his contacts in Trabzon. According to Gürlek, the factors that revived the investigation are: re-analysis of HTS and base station records, and recovery of the rifle used in the attack. Gürlek also noted that the decision to refer suspects for prosecution belongs to the Chief Prosecutor's Office and that he has no information at this stage.
The file had been intermittently on the agenda of the Bureau for Combating Unsolved Crimes, established within the Justice Ministry's Criminal Affairs General Directorate, since 2015. In the attack in question, the windows of the Fenerbahçe bus were shot at and the driver was wounded. The initial investigation launched in 2015 was suspended without the perpetrators being identified.
