Trabzon Chief Prosecutor Apprehends 4 Suspects in 2015 Fenerbahçe Bus Attack

The Trabzon Chief Prosecutor's Office conducted a new operation regarding an armed attack on the Fenerbahçe football team's bus in Trabzon on April 4, 2015, detaining 4 of 5 suspects; 1 suspect remains at large.

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek confirmed the development while answering journalists' questions during his visit to Trabzon. According to Gürlek, the factors that reinvigorated the investigation are as follows: re-analysis of HTS and base station records, and recovery of the rifle used in the attack. Gürlek also noted separately that the decision to refer suspects for prosecution rests with the Chief Prosecutor's Office and that he has no information at this stage.

The file had periodically appeared on and disappeared from the agenda of the Unsolved Crimes Combat Bureau established within the Justice Ministry's Criminal Affairs General Directorate since 2015. In the attack in question, the windows of the Fenerbahçe bus were shot and the driver was wounded. The initial investigation launched in 2015 was suspended without identifying the perpetrators.
